Performance Review

Driving Performance

The CX-80 comes equipped with an inline 6-cylinder diesel engine, boasting a maximum output of 272 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque! Its acceleration shines especially in the mid-range, making daily drives smooth and stress-free. With a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of around 8.5 seconds, merging onto highways is a breeze!

The top speed reaches 210 km/h, which outperforms rivals like the Toyota Harrier (around 190 km/h) and the Honda CR-V (around 180 km/h). The handling is also impressive, thanks to its longitudinal engine layout and FR-based platform, providing great balance. Whether you’re navigating curves or cruising on the highway, it feels stable and enjoyable to drive. You can also opt for an all-wheel drive (AWD) system for added peace of mind in rainy or snowy conditions. Perfect for those weekend ski trips!

Fuel Efficiency (km/L)

The diesel engine models of the CX-80 deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of around 15-18 km/L. Hybrid models offer even better performance, reaching up to 22 km/L!

Eco Performance

The CX-80 offers mild hybrid and PHEV (plug-in hybrid) models as well. The PHEV model allows for battery charging and achieves an electric-only driving range of about 50 km. If you have home charging facilities, you can run errands nearby without using gasoline!

Safety Review

Crash Test Results

The CX-80 earned a 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP safety standards, excelling particularly in adult occupant protection, with a high score of 91%.

Airbags

We checked the number of airbags! The CX-80 is equipped with 8 airbags, including front, rear, and curtain airbags, ensuring the safety of all passengers. This gives added peace of mind in the event of an accident.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

The CX-80 is packed with the latest driver assistance technologies, including collision avoidance support, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist. Perfect for a stress-free drive home from a golf trip!

Comfort Review

Seat Comfort

The CX-80 features a three-row seating layout, with ample space and comfortable cushions in the front and middle rows. While the third row can feel a bit tight, it still provides comfort for long family trips. Leather upholstery is also available as an option, offering a premium finish.

Interior Quality

High-quality materials are used throughout the interior, especially in premium models, which feature genuine wood panels and luxury leather. The sophisticated interior design enhances driver satisfaction.

Sound System

The CX-80 is equipped with a premium BOSE sound system, delivering an immersive audio experience. Personally, I’m a huge fan of BOSE sound systems in cars! There’s nothing like a high-energy drive with your favorite tunes.

Design Review

Exterior Design

The CX-80’s exterior combines the boldness of a large SUV with sleek, refined styling. The special Artisan Red Metallic color really stands out! Its bold front design and flowing body lines make it visually striking.

Interior Design

Inside, the design is both simple and elegant, with a driver-focused layout. The infotainment system’s monitor is placed at the top of the dashboard, ensuring excellent visibility while driving. Many modern cars have oversized screens that compromise visibility, so this design is a big plus.

Price Review

Purchase Price

The base model starts at around ¥4.5 million, while the PHEV model can cost up to around ¥7.2 million with options. The CX-80’s rivals in this price range are other three-row models under 5 meters in length. For example, the Nissan X-Trail, measuring 4,660 mm in length, is priced between ¥4,271,300 and ¥4,972,000. Meanwhile, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, with a length of 4,710 mm, ranges from ¥5,590,200 to ¥6,304,100. The CX-80 is a bit pricier compared to its competitors.

Maintenance Costs (Insurance, Taxes, Repairs)

With its large engine, insurance and taxes are slightly higher, but the diesel engine’s fuel efficiency might help offset these costs. With gasoline prices on the rise, this could be a good trade-off.

Technology & Features Review

Infotainment System

The latest Mazda Connect infotainment system is included, but I have to say, Mazda’s system feels a bit outdated compared to other brands in terms of design and usability. However, it does support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so that’s a relief.

Conclusion

So, how does the CX-80 measure up? If you’re in the market for a three-row SUV, your options are somewhat limited, but the CX-80 stands out as a solid choice for those who:

  • Want to go on drives with a large group!
  • Need space for 4-5 people plus plenty of luggage!

It’s worth taking a test drive and seeing if the CX-80 fits into your lifestyle. See you next time with more car reviews!
